Labour councillors, after strong representation from local climate activists, are planning to take support for the Climate and Ecology Bill to council for approval in October. The Climate and Ecology Bill demands that the government make their own targets a duty, rather than an ambition. It also links the conservation of nature and increase in biodiversity inextricably with action on climate change.
It is quite ironic to hear Rishi Sunak trying to renege on the UK’s international commitments and slow down action on climate change at a time when we need to both catch up on urgent actions and reinforce our commitments to act for the future.
