Dover Youth Festival was held between the 26th of October until the 3rd of November (Half Term). It catered for those between the ages of eleven to nineteen. All events were free to attend.
A whole host of events took place throughout the town including Beach Sculpture, Word Play, Bushcraft to Stargazing, Open fire cooking and making a Halloween mask, in other words, something for everyone.
Being creative in an Artistic way brings new challenges to young people, not a prescribed way, in their own way. On Thursday and Friday a group of mainly boys attended The Charlton Centre, a safe and friendly environment, and a craft session took place.
They had different materials, such as clay, to create a scene of their choice to depict Dover.
Joe, from the glass shop was in attendance to pass on his knowledge as to how to get a “ special three d effect”.
I sat alongside, even joined in myself, and it was great to hear the chatter of young voices.
Many years ago I worked for The Youth Service, it was a rewarding role, and I can safely say that young people fundamentally remain the same, they like to be heard, they like to try new experiences, and most of all they have a lot to offer.
